About role:

The Marketing Leader will lead and execute marketing strategies to support business growth across key markets, including consumer goods, medical, footwear and automotive. This role is responsible for building strategic market positioning, managing opportunity pipelines and enhancing profitability through targeted promotional priorities, market intelligence, and customer engagement. The position ensures alignment among Sales, Business Development and Technology & Innovation teams, delivering impactful value propositions and leveraging sustainability efforts to differentiate the brand. The role will be of guidance and source of inspiration to innovation.

 

High-Level Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Development & Execution: Lead the creation of strategic plans to drive business growth. Ensure successful execution of strategic initiatives in alignment with the overall business objectives.
  • Global Marketing Plan: Develop and deploy global marketing plans that will maximize profits and drive new opportunities in markets such as electronics, consumer goods or automotive.
  • Market Positioning: Own the development of principal value proposition packages for key customer segments and sales teams. Ensure product differentiation is effectively communicated to target markets.
  • Product Portfolio Management: Provide insights into market trends and collaborate with business development and R&D teams to prioritize innovation projects and business cases. Ensure customer needs are addressed through portfolio management.
  • Marketing Intelligence: Lead market trend analysis, track customer performance, and deliver actionable insights to support business development and innovation teams. Oversee regulatory trends and certifications that may impact future opportunities.
  • Customer Engagement: Define and implement marketing plans tailored to key customers, ensuring the voice of the customer is heard and leveraged to shape product development and business strategies.
  • Sustainability & Innovation: Lead sustainability efforts and ensure marketing strategies reflect the company’s commitment to sustainable products. Identify new breakthrough technologies and emerging markets to expand business opportunities.
  • Branding & Market Expansion: Strengthen brand positioning for targeted product lines, explore new regional opportunities, and provide guidance towards an expanding customer base.

Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy and Planning

  • Develop comprehensive marketing strategies based on thorough market research, competitive analysis, and customer insights
  • Define clear goals, identify areas to focus on and align marketing efforts with business objectives
  • Support senior business leader in the execution and oversight of business strategy
  • Conduct regular research and analysis to monitor market movements and trends within the defined markets. This includes understanding shifts in consumer preferences, competitor activities, and emerging opportunities that impact the business.
  • Collaborate with Sales, Business Development (BD) Directors, and other key functions (Product, Pricing, Programs, Promotion/Advertising, Regulatory, and Public Relations) to create an annual marketing plan. Ensure the marketing plan aligns with the Engineered Compounds Business Strategy and strengthens the organization’s market position and public image. The plan should also support both internal and external communications strategies.
  • Develop, document, and present the marketing plan to senior management. Ensure that the plan’s objectives, strategies, and expected outcomes are clearly communicated and understood.
  • The marketing plan should include market data, sales/distribution and competitive analysis, market opportunity analysis, and market segmentation and participation plans, defining target market segments and strategies for engaging with them.
  • Continuously evaluate and recommend potential new market opportunities. If deemed valuable, coordinate actions and resources to explore and capture these opportunities in line with the regional marketing plan.
  • Work closely with the local Commercial Director to ensure alignment between marketing strategies and available local resources. Balance business investments with resource availability to maximize the effectiveness of regional marketing initiatives.
  • Identify and evaluate new regional markets for expansion, conducting market research to assess potential demand and competition.

 

Market Positioning 

  • Own the development of value proposition packages for key customer segments.
  • Understand the unique needs and challenges of each target segment to create tailored messaging that resonates with them.
  • Highlight product differentiation by emphasizing unique features and benefits that set the product apart from competitors.
  • Ensure clear communication of product advantages, focusing on how it solves specific customer pain points more effectively than alternatives.
  • Collaborate with sales teams to provide tools, resources, and training to effectively communicate the product’s differentiation to customers.
  • Conduct ongoing market research to track competitor offerings and industry trends, refining the product’s positioning to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Adjust positioning strategies as needed to ensure the product is always seen as the preferred solution within its targeted markets.

 

Marketing Data 

  • Supervise the collection of market data.
  • Use data and competitive intelligence to drive efficiencies and growth.
  • Establish ongoing competitive analysis and market monitoring programs to anticipate changes in current business and identify macro trends that will impact long term growth potential.
  • Provide results and reporting for Trinseo Executive Leadership Team (ELT).
  • Drive the analysis of data and is able to translate into trends and meaningful conclusions that provide the Business Vice President (VP) with a platform for decisions.

 

Pipeline Management

  • Manage (together with Commercial and Technology & Innovation (T&I) leaders) the product development pipeline and ensures successful implementation.
  • Assess customers’ needs and, in case of gaps in current product portfolio to deliver the plan, generates projects with Business Development (BD) to close them. 
  • Drive execution, together with the Commercial Director and functional leaders.
  • Provide regular updates on pipeline development to Business Management Team (BMT) and Executive Leadership Team (ELT) as needed.

 

Customer Engagement & Branding Expansion

  • Visit key customers and engage in direct conversations to gather insights, concerns, and feedback.
  • Analyze customer feedback and translate it into actionable marketing strategies, ensuring alignment with customer needs and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with product and sales teams to adjust offerings and improve the overall customer experience based on gathered insights.
  • Strengthen brand presence across key markets by executing strategic campaigns, both online and offline.
  • Enhance visibility through digital platforms, social media, and content marketing, while ensuring consistent and compelling brand messaging across all channels.
  • Organize and participate in key industry events, trade shows, and conferences to promote the brand and network with potential clients.

Qualifications

Minimum Education Required: Bachelor’s degree in engineering or business. Master’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science or business administration is considered a plus.

 

Minimum Experience (years and type): At least ten years work experience in commercial functions, such as Sales, Marketing, Purchasing, Business Research, Application Development, or Technical Service is required with specific knowledge and experience in the plastic industry, plastics compounding and markets such as consumer electronics or automotive.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Ease of communication at different levels inside and outside of the company is a critical success factor. Fluency in both Chinese and English is required. Other languages will be considered a plus.
